East Anglia: Welcome to Cambridgeshire

Standing as the focal point of Cambridgeshire, the City of Cambridge inspires and fuses the very best of our historic heritage with new and emerging technology.

Meandering through its centre it’s a must to experience punting on the River Cam in the Summer, be astounded by the beauty of the University colleges and local architecture and wander down the side streets of one of the best shopping areas of the region. Enjoy the restaurants and theatres, the churches and museums, historic houses, the arts, the parks and wide open spaces. Even if you choose not to live there, once visited, Cambridge will engage you.

Yet, a short step outside Cambridge and you can explore the fenlands, rolling hills, broad rivers, historic market towns at Godmanchester, St Ives and Huntingdon, whose strategic importance converged during the civil war. The Georgian town of Wisbech and Cathedral cities of Peterborough and Ely, rising gloriously from the very midst of the fens engage and delight.

With evidence of a history stretching back over 3000 years, reflect as you stroll through the bronze age village at Flag Fen, one of the many historical manor houses such as Anglesey Abbey, Wimpole Hall, Burghley or Hemingford Grey or cycle along Cambridgeshire’s extensive cycle routes or through protected parklands at Hinchingbrooke, Wandlebury or Grafton Water.

More recent history and its many unique and remarkable flying and fighting machines, utilised during the Battle of Britain from on of the many regional RAF airfields, can now be viewed at the renowned Imperial War Museum at Duxford.

Whatever your Cambridgeshire destination, you can not fail to be engaged by the openness of the area, its residents, its visitors, its history.
